This is one of my all time favorite bread recipes, and I love to make and pass it out around the holidays. There is nothing better than getting a bread starter as a fun gift and nurturing it into a delicious treat for friends and family. Does this bring you back to your childhood like it does me? I finally found the bread starter recipe and I can't wait to share it with you! It is essential to having a starter on hand in order to get the train rolling from person to person. A little starter can go a long way....
Friendship Bread Starter Recipe:
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Ingredients
1 (0.25 ounce) package of active dry yeast
1/4 cup of warm water (110 degrees F/ 45 degrees Celsius)
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup of white sugar
1 cup of milk
Instructions
1. In a small bowl (non metal) dissolve yeast in the warm water. Let is bubble for at least 10 minutes.
2. In a 2 quart glass, plastic or ceramic bowl combine 1 cup of sugar and 1 cup of flour and whisk thoroughly.
3. Slowly stir in 1 cup of milk and the yeast mixture into the 2 quart bowl.
4. Cover the bowl loosely with plastic wrap, and let it sit at room temperature until is starts bubbling. This is technically going to be day 1 of the 10 day cycle.
5. Once bubbly, transfer the starter into a gallon size baggie and seal.
TIPS:
* Once you receive the bread starter in a gallon size baggie, do not refrigerate! It is good for the batter to rise bubble, and ferment.
